C INTO THE USER SUB WILL BE THOSE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN APPLIED FOR 
C DISPLACEMENTS IF THE USER SUB PARAMETER HAD NOT BEEN GIVEN. THIS MEANS  
C THE VALUE OF U(1) CAN VARY ACCORDING TO THE AMP PARAMETER ON THE *STEP 
C CARD OR VIA A *AMPLITUDE CURVE. IN THESE CASES THE COMBINATION OF THE 
C TWO FUNCTIONS WILL BE USED.
